2013This project consisted of bedroom upgrade works including substantial mechanical and electrical elements. The works were carried out over a 19-day shutdown.
MMD Construction was the main Contractor and the Project Supervisor Construction Stage (PSCS) for the works at Mercy Hospital. As the PSCS, MMD Construction had the responsibility of managing and coordinating all health and safety matters during the works. All existing facilities remained live and uninterrupted during the works, this required close communication with hospital staff on a daily basis. Daily safety inspections were undertaken to ensure the safe usage of the building for patients, staff and visitors. All construction work was in accordance with current Building Regulations & the HSE Standards and Technical Guidance documents.
The works were carried out over a 19-day shutdown, therefore adhering to the project schedule was of critical importance. Dust generated from the works was controlled with the use of dust proof screens to Class 2 Preventative Measures for Major Internal Containable Construction and required constant monitoring. Strict guidelines were abided to for the prevention of Aspergillus through the use of the National Guidelines for the Prevention of Nosocomial Invasive Aspergillosis During Construction/Renovation Activities. Very careful monitoring of works carried out were the works were adjacent to the hospitals live services.
