Kinsale Community School

This project consisted of the construction of 5398m² of new secondary school accommodation. The works comprised of the construction of a new three storey classroom block, a new single storey classroom extension, a new two storey extension and a new sports hall facility together with associated general refurbishment to the existing school.

MMD Construction was the main Contractor and the Project Supervisor Construction Stage (PSCS) for the works at Kinsale Community School.

As the PSCS, MMD Construction had the responsibility of managing and coordinating all health and safety matters during the construction of the school which is located within a busy suburban area. The works were carried out in phases to allow the current school to remain operational for the duration of the works. All works were completed in accordance with the contract documents and complied with all statutory requirements including the Building Control Regulations and the Building Control (Amendment) Regulations.

The works commenced during a school term making it a challenging live site. The existing school remained fully operational while the works were underway. MMD Construction Site Management Team liaised very closely with the Schools Management Team and on-site Clerk of Works to ensure that the works would not interfere with any of the school’s activities.
